Girlstart After School is a weekly, two-semester program encouraging young women to believe in themselves and to pursue paths to higher education and greater career opportunities in STEM. Girlstart After School seeks to enhance and supplement girls’ science learning in the classroom through engaging activities that introduce important STEM concepts in a hands-on and informal environment. As a standards-aligned hands-on STEM program, Girlstart After School supports the science and math learning recovery for our participants and Girlstart girls receive an additional 26 hours of science enrichment. Additionally, we incorporate cross-curricular components within our activities to further support participants' learning.

Girlstart has identified the following goals for Girlstart After School:
    •  To increase participants’ understanding and mastery of the scientific method as a system for problem solving and scientific discovery.
    •  To increase participants’ confidence in doing science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) activities.
    •  To increase participants’ awareness of STEM careers.
    •  To increase the number of girls who select STEM electives.
    •  To increase the number of girls who will indicate an interest in pursuing STEM study in high school/college.

    •  For each girl to maintain weekly club attendance (no more than 4 absences per semester)

Please contact Mrs. Coats, PES Girlstart Campus Coordinator with any questions or concerns.

First Order of Business for Newly Revamped Hays Education Foundation: Fill State Education Funding Gaps

It’s a new day for the Hays Education Foundation – a non-profit that was created to benefit Hays Consolidated Independent School District teachers and students. The Foundation has been working since the pandemic disruption to reinvent itself as an organization that can grow with the district and tackle a changing array of education funding needs. On Thursday, November 9, 2023, the Foundation will host a re-launch event and share its new plans. “The Foundation, a district partner since 1998, has provided valuable assistance to district teachers and students. The first 25 years were successful for the early 21st century Hays CISD. However, with no sign of student population growth slowing, and increasingly uncertain education funding from the state, it’s time to reassess, retool, and remake the Foundation into an organization that can serve Hays CISD for the next 25 years,” said Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright. Hays CISD to Create Attendance Zone for New Elementary

The process is underway to create a new elementary school attendance zone to accommodate the opening of the district’s 16th elementary school. The new campus, located in the Anthem subdivision, will open in August 2024. In July 2023, the Board of Trustees voted to empanel a committee of 14 citizens to review proposed maps, receive public input, and create a recommendation that will be presented to the Board for a vote no later than December of this year. “Board policy requires the district administration to create at least two starting-point maps for consideration by the citizen committee,” said Hays CISD Chief Communication Officer Tim Savoy. “We encourage everyone who has an opinion to reach out to the committee by using the special ‘Zone Talk’ button on the committee’s webpage or attending one of two public forums. People can also follow along as the process progresses, view the prevailing draft maps, and see all of the materials presented to the committee on the committee webpage.”  The committee webpage is www.hayscisd.net/zone2023. Hays History Day - Parent & Community Informational Meeting

Hays CISD is excited to announce the second annual Hays History Day will be held on January 20, 2024. Our district History Day competition is in conjunction with the Texas History Day competition hosted by the Texas State Historical Association and the National History Day organization. History Day's purpose is to equip students with college and career ready skills of collaboration, research, writing, and innovative thinking that come from the study of history and civics. It is a wonderful way to incorporate Social Studies and Reading and Language Arts state standards into innovative projects. The competition is open to students from grades 4 through 12. Please join us for more information at a parent and community meeting on Thursday, September 21 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the Barton Middle School cafeteria. We will discuss the theme for this year's project and options for student projects.  Please click headline or "Read More" for additional details.
