10:55 am update:

We have some additional information to provide regarding the McCormick Middle School emergency this morning. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office advised the campus to go into a LOCKDOWN based on information they received regarding an incident that was happening in the campus parking lot.

The school immediately activated its standard response protocol and placed the school in a LOCKDOWN, and eventually followed all necessary steps to lift a lockdown by clearing each room individually.

At this time, we know that the incident did not transition from the parking lot into the building and that no one was injured.

The Sheriff’s Office is still working the investigation and will provide more information later today.

Hays CISD continues to be grateful for all of our partners in law enforcement and emergency services professions. Campus staff and students performed exemplary during the emergency and did everything they have been trained to do when an incident occurs. The district also wants to thank parents for your patience and trust. We know situations like this are unimaginably alarming. Once it was deemed safe to allow it, students were encouraged to reach out to their loved-ones using their cell phones and texting devices.

The ALL CLEAR has been given at McCormick and students are allowed to use their cell phones to reach out and check in with parents if they wish to do so. There are no injuries associated with this incident. The school district is working with law enforcement to provide you additional detail about what happened. We will get that to you as soon as we can. I know this has been an upsetting morning. Thank you for your continued cooperation with us during this emergency.

Previous information:

McCormick Middle School was placed on LOCKDOWN at 9:12 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2025, because of law enforcement activity at the campus. The emergency situation was downgraded to a HOLD in place at 9:40 a.m. Everyone is safe at the campus. Additional details will be provided as soon as possible.
