Dear Tiger Community,
Welcome back to another exciting year, I am thrilled to begin my 5th year as Assistant Principal at McCormick Middle School. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Sociology, and Master of Educational Leadership. With over 24 years of experience in education, I firmly believe that building relationships with both students and parents can pave the way for a successful education. By working together, we can make sure every child’s academic, social, and emotional needs are met.
As we start the 2026-2027 school year, I would like to encourage all parents to have a growth mindset and remember that we are all in this together. Watching your children grow from young impressionable 6th graders to strong well-rounded young adults in 8th grade is not only exciting but rewarding. I am here to support attendance, academics, and social emotional learning; to bridge our students from not only leaders on campus to engaged learners in our community.
I am a proud member of the Hays CISD community where I reside with my husband and two boys. We live and breathe soccer in our home and feel that participating in activities inside and outside of school help foster a well rounded sense of self. Es una alegría y un honor servir como uno de sus administradores dedicados aquí en McCormick.
I look forward to meeting you all during the upcoming school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop in, call, or email me as the year progresses.
Sincerely,
Helen Garcia-Bernal, 7th grade Assistant Principal

Greetings Tiger Families,
I am excited to serve as the 8th Grade Assistant Principal for the 2026-2027 School Year. I have had the pleasure of working with this cohort of students since they were in 6th grade. I am excited to continue watching them grow academically and socially, as well as to assist them as they prepare for high school.
I am beginning my 22nd year in education. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Government with a minor in Philosophy from The University of Texas and earned my Master's Degree in Education from Texas State University.
I have been a proud resident of Kyle, Texas, for the past 26 years, thus I have a strong connection to the Hays CISD community. My husband and our three children attended Hays CISD schools from Kindergarten through their Senior Year.
In my free time, I love completing jigsaw puzzles, listening to audio books and watching hockey.
I look forward to partnering with families throughout the year for the success of our students. Please feel free to reach out anytime.
