Understanding Rude, Mean, and Bullying

Know the Differences to Foster Kindness

Rude behavior is when someone unintentionally says or does something that is hurtful and is not repeated. For example, accidentally interrupting someone while they’re speaking. It's important to address such behavior with understanding and communication.

Mean behavior is intentionally saying or doing something hurtful and is not repeated. Examples are making fun of someone’s appearance, the way they talk or draw. It can often lead to feelings of sadness and isolation.

Bullying is repeated aggressive behavior with the intent to harm. For instance, repeatedly excluding someone from group activities. This can create a hostile environment and requires serious intervention.

Recognize the differences and help promote a positive environment.
