Hays CISD Superintendent Eric Wright announced Tuesday the selection of Javier González as the principal of Camino Real Elementary, replacing Yvette Soliz who was selected earlier in the year to open the brand new Ramage Elementary School this August. The Board of Trustees approved hiring González to lead Camino Real at its June business meeting. González has more than a decade’s worth of experience as an educator and campus leader.
“As an educator and leader, my philosophy centers on the belief that leadership is not just about directing; it is about inspiring, empowering, and guiding others to reach their fullest potential,” said González. “In the context of education, this means cultivating an environment where academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement are seamlessly intertwined.”
“Under Javier’s leadership, great things are going to continue to happen at Camino Real – one of our fastest growing elementary campuses,” said Dr. Eric Wright, Hays CISD superintendent of schools. “He knows our students, our community, and our educational philosophy of making things 100% possible for our students and staff.”
González has been an educator and campus leader in Hays CISD since 2013, following an exemplary career in the United States Air Force. He was most recently the assistant principal of Uhland Elementary, a campus he helped to open. Prior to his leadership role at Uhland, González was an instructional coach in the district and a bilingual teacher at Hemphill and Tom Green Elementary Schools.
“My passion for education is rooted in a deep belief that every student deserves a supportive and challenging environment that nurtures their academic, social, and emotional growth,” said González. “I believe that the strength of a school lies in its connections with the community. Building strong partnerships with families, staff, and local organizations is essential for creating an inclusive, collaborative environment. Equally important is the development of a positive, supportive school culture. I am passionate about creating a safe and welcoming environment where students and staff feel valued and respected.”
González holds four degrees: a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin; a Master of Education in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Bilingual Education, both from Texas State University; and an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from Austin Community College. In 2017, he was named the Tom Green Elementary teacher of the year, as well as the Hays CISD districtwide elementary school teacher of the year. He earned a number of commendations during his academic studies including graduating summa cum laude and being inducted into two collegiate honor societies. While serving in the United States Air Force, González was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the John L. Levitow Award for leadership, and an Air Force Achievement Medal. In 2005, he was named Airman of the Year.
