July 1, 2020 Email: Survey Results, Fall Planning, and Updates

Posted by Tim Savoy on 7/1/2020

Dear Hays CISD Family,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. Here are some important updates:

Back to School Survey

Thank you to the 11,638 people who responded to our back-to-school planning survey. The results are online at: www.hayscisd.net/results for you to view. This information will be critical in helping us plan what the fall semester may look like in Hays CISD. All of the comments aren’t posted online, but they have been shared with district leadership and the Board of Trustees.

Fall Planning

Fall planning actively continues for us during the summer. The District Leadership Team (DLT), which is working as the district’s Re-Opening Task Force, is putting in place a plan that will comply with Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements and provide the safest possible options for our students, teachers, and staff. We will be making some final decisions in the coming weeks and will provide more information soon. In general terms, and based on the current pandemic situation, Hays CISD will have in-person and learn-from-home options in the fall. Of course, with COVID, plans can change quickly. We will keep you informed.

Fourth of July Weekend

Here’s a message from TEA. We have joined school district’s around the state to share it:

Keep your family safe this 4th of July! Avoid groups larger than 10; stay home if you can; wash your hands; wear a mask; stay 6 ft. apart. Do your part!

UIL Physical Exam Requirements

In light of the many challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) has waived certain requirements for students to undergo a physical examination prior to participation in UIL marching band or UIL athletic activities for 2020-21 school year:

  • Students seeking to participate in UIL marching band or UIL athletic activities for the first time and who do not already have a completed Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation (PPE) on file with the District will be required to complete and submit a PPE form prior to participation. Parents need to make an appointment with their doctors to complete the PPE.

  • Students who have previously submitted to the District a completed PPE form (in 2019-20) will not be required to submit a new PPE form in order to be eligible to participate in the 2020-2021 school year unless the student answers “Yes” to questions 1-6 on the Medical  History Questionnaire. All students will be required to complete the Medical History Questionnaire prior to participation in 2020-2021.

  • High School Dance students will follow the same requirements as marching band.

Parents and students with questions about student physicals should contact their coaches or activity sponsors.

Have a happy 4th of July and stay safe!
