Graduation UPDATE
Dear Hays CISD Family,
I hope you all are safe and well as we manage the uncertainties of COVID-19. Here are some important updates on graduationt:
Graduation
We learned today that Texas State University has canceled the high school graduations that had been scheduled the second week in August, including all three of our ceremonies. We appreciate all of the help and assistance Texas State has offered our district throughout this COVID-19 crisis and understand their decision.
The Hays CISD graduation team met today and the district has decided to do hybrid ceremonies at Shelton Stadium that include limited, in-person and virtual, live-streamed components. Specific details, which will help keep the ceremonies safe, are forthcoming. The schedule is as follows: Live Oak Academy – Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.; Hays High School – Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 8:00 p.m.; Lehman High School – Friday, June 26, 2020 at 8:00 p.m.
Each family will be allowed two, in-person tickets to watch their graduate’s ceremony. Other guests will be able to watch the ceremony live online.
Hays Free Press Special Graduation Edition
The Hays Free Press will publish a commemorative, keep-sake edition listing each Hays CISD Class of 2020 graduate. This publication is made possible by congratulatory ads purchased by parents and others who wish to applaud the Class of 2020 seniors. You still have time to support this publication by purchasing an ad this week. Information regarding ad purchasing is at: https://haysfreepress.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Graduation-flyer-2020-fillable.pdf?fbclid=IwAR1KKCqXLrS-e1zunenb_LJmlBbC_3uyyMk9lGmi_-iuOsUfYo_ShoLwY4E
Additional Class of 2020 Recognition
Senior Day: Senior will still pick up items like caps and gowns, graduation cords, commemorative yard signs, and letter jackets on May 26, 2020. Specific plans will be coming directly from campuses. This day has been set aside to honor our Class of 2020. Social Media Spotlights: Toward the end of the school year, the district will post photos of each graduate, in albums by campus, on its social media channels. In addition, seniors and their parents will be able to submit fun graduation or senior pictures that we will also publish. Look for more details about submitting those photos as we get closer to the end of May.
Congratulatory Yard Signs: Each graduate will get a campus-specific yard or window sign to display at their home. The signs will be distributed on May 26th.
Dedicated Graduation Webpages: The district will publish dedicated webpages listing each graduate, including special video messages from the principals and superintendent of schools.
Districtwide Signage: All campus marquees, during the last week of school and week of what would have been graduation will bear congratulatory messages to our seniors. Additionally, the district is working with city jurisdictions to display congratulatory messages on billboards.
Sincerely,
Tim Savoy
