Winter Storm Recovery Update February 23, 2021
Our storm restoration efforts are continuing around the clock.
In-Person Instruction Resumes for Most Campuses Wednesday/FES, HES, TGES Remain Virtual
All campuses, with the exception of three, are ready to resume in-person instruction tomorrow (Wednesday, February 24, 2021) for students who have not opted to participate in remote instruction because of the pandemic. Fuentes, Hemphill, and Tom Green Elementary Schools, and the Impact Center, will conduct 100% virtual instruction for the remainder of the week, returning to in-person instruction on Monday, March 1, 2021.
Fuentes, Hemphill, and Tom Green Elementary Schools, and the Impact Center, are still undergoing drying measures to make sure moisture from broken pipes is completely dried, including inside the walls of the buildings.
Drinking Water
All of the water companies that serve Hays CISD campuses, with the exception of one, have lifted their boil water requirements. We expect the last water company to lift that restriction today or in the morning. If not, the district will be able to provide bottled water to the affected campuses until they are able to resume normal water use.
Damage Costs
The district is working with its insurance company to assess damage costs to buildings and we do not yet have a total cost estimate. However, we anticipate that we will only be required to pay no more than one deductible of $25,000, for the entire winter storm event. And, we believe that deductible will likely be reimbursable through federal or state disaster relief money.
Special thanks again to everyone who is working to restore our buildings and to all who are helping our community to recover.
