Dr. Watson Tapped to Lead Simon MS as Principal
Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright announced Friday that Dr. Michael Watson, current Dahlstrom Middle School principal, will serve as the new principal for Simon Middle School beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. Dr. Watson joined the Hays CISD team in 2014, as the principal of Live Oak Academy and led that campus to stellar success, doubling the number of graduates at the campus in prior years to nearly 200. In 2017, Dr. Watson became principal of Dahlstrom Middle School and helped that campus move from a “B” grade to an “A,” with distinctions.

Smith Named New Lobo Director of Bands
Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD) Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright is pleased to announce the selection of Nathan Smith as the director of bands for Lehman High School, beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. The Hays CISD Board of Trustees approved Smith’s selection at its May 18, 2020, regular meeting.

Graduation UPDATE
We learned today that Texas State University has canceled the high school graduations that had been scheduled the second week in August, including all three of our ceremonies. We appreciate all of the help and assistance Texas State has offered our district throughout this COVID-19 crisis and understand their decision. The Hays CISD graduation team met and the district has decided to do hybrid ceremonies at Shelton Stadium that include limited, in-person and virtual, live-streamed components. Specific details, which will help keep the ceremonies safe, are forthcoming. The schedule is as follows: Live Oak Academy – Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.; Hays High School – Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 8:00 p.m.; Lehman High School – Friday, June 26, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. Each family will be allowed two, in-person tickets to watch their graduate’s ceremony. Ralph Pfluger Leaves Lifetime Legacy of Advocating for Children
The Hays Consolidated Independent School District is saddened to announce that Ralph Pfluger died Friday, May 8, 2020. Pfluger, the namesake for Ralph Pfluger Elementary School, served on the Buda School Board when Hays CISD was created in in 1967, and was selected as one of the seven founding members of the first Hays CISD School Board. In 2012, for his lifelong contributions to children, the district, and education in Texas; the State Board of Education named him a Hero for Children.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Videos Now Online
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Hays CISD Secondary Sheltered Instruction/ESL Specialist Sara Sparks has created several informational videos on various SEL topics. The videos include closed captioning in English & Spanish. Credit by Examination Deadline Update: COVID-19
Due to the closure of school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, our Credit by Examination (CBE) and Examinations for Acceleration timelines have shifted. Our CBE partner, The University of Texas, has released a secure testing platform for CBEs given for students in Grades 3-12 where students may complete their CBE in their own homes. This service integrates an identification process, lockdown browser, and video monitoring as students complete their exams on their own computer at home.
