Student Health Services

In recognition of that, Hays CISD provides a registered nurse at each campus and a LVN in addition at the high schools.  The school nurse serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for student health and a healthy school environment.

    We believe that parents are of primary importance in managing the overall well-being of students. We believe that a healthy child will be better prepared for the task of learning. We believe that all children should have access to health care when needed. We believe in the theory of Maslow’s hierarchy; that children must have basic physiological needs met in order to fulfill their educational, emotional and social potential. 

    Our dedicated team of Nurses at Hays CISD have a combined total of more than 500 years of experience in nursing with almost 200 years in school nursing. We love our jobs and our students!

Roles and Responsibilites

  • School nursing is a professional registered nursing specialty that involves identification, assessment, prevention, and intervention to remedy or modify students' health needs. The nurses' goal is to promote the optimum health of students and the students' abilities to achieve their individual educational goals.

    Nurses monitor required immunizations, perform mandated health screenings, track communicable diseases, plan for emergencies and provide direct care to students. Please use the links to the left to learn more about the Hays CISD District Health Services.

    We would like to assure you that medical information about your child is treated as confidential by the nurses and all school staff.  We do not share information about your child with outside parties nor can we discuss health concerns of any other student with you.

Emergency Health Information

  • Parents/guardians are required to complete and sign an Emergency Health Card form each year. This provides us with parent and alternate contact information and basic medical information in the event of a medical emergency at school or a school-related activity. Parents/guardians are urged to include information about pre-existing medical conditions, allergies, and medications, etc. on this form. The Emergency Helath Card is updated annually before the school year begins and anytime there is a change to your contact information through online registration. Any changes in health for a student should be shared with the school nurse as quickly as possible to help us keep your child safe at school. 

Emergency Medications

  • All campuses have an emergency supply of epinephrine and Narcan that school nurses or other trained school employees may administer in the event of an unexpected, undiagnosed anaphylactic reaction OR a suspected opioid overdose. Parents of children with known anaphylaxis are expected to provide an individual supply of emergency medication and emergency action plan to the campus nurse.
