Dual Language Programs
-
Hays CISD has continued receiving overwhelming support and positive feedback about our Spanish Enrichment class at the elementary level. We are excited to continue offering this Spanish enrichment class through the Special Area class rotation into the 2024-2025 school year. This opportunity has provided our students with an environment that fosters an engaging opportunity for language exploration, production, and the ability to grow accustomed to a language before entering middle and high school world languages courses. We can all agree that being multilingual is an advantage in today’s global society and we strive for our students to begin exploring how to use another language and learn about the cultural practices, products and perspectives of its peoples.
Cullen Elementary, Science Hall Elementary, and Sunfield Elementary will continue providing a Spanish enrichment class through the Special Area rotation. All students, (P)K-5, will have access to this exciting opportunity this school year. More and more of our students will have the opportunity to be exposed to other world languages and cultures. The ultimate goal is to provide world languages’ rotation in all elementary schools across the district.
The current two-way dual language academy will cease new enrollment for the foreseeable future. Students (3rd-5th) currently enrolled in the two-way dual language academy at Science Hall Elementary will have the opportunity to finish the program.
In response, Hays CISD will continue offering a one-way dual language program at each of our bilingual campuses starting with PK-2, leading to a full PK-5 program as the students grow and move up in their education. Our bilingual elementary campuses for the 2024-2025 school year are as follows:
- Blanco Vista Elementary
- Camino Real Elementary
- Tom Green Elementary
- Hemphill Elementary (Pre-K only)
- Science Hall Elementary
- Uhland Elementary
