I am so excited to be a part of the great community of Sunfield Elementary. I began my teaching career in 2010 at Hays CISD and am thrilled to return home to the Kyle/Buda area. My goal as the school counselor is to advocate for an environment that supports success for all students to ensure the students have a positive and rewarding experience at school. I look forward to continuing my journey as your school counselor at Sunfield in the 2025-2026 school year. I can’t wait to get to know all the students, staff, and thriving Sunfield Community. Bio

Candace Barnes received her Master’s in Elementary Education from Texas State University in 2010 and earned her School Counseling Certification through Region 13 in 2016. In May 2025, she completed her Master’s in Counseling from Lamar University to further deepen her commitment to student wellness and advocacy. Candace brings 15 years of experience in education, including 9 years as a school counselor. She was honored as Hays CISD’s Counselor of the Year for the 2023–2024 school year.

Candace is proud to serve as the school counselor at Sunfield Elementary, supporting students in PreK through 5th grade. She is dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

A longtime resident of the Buda/Kyle area, Candace is married to a local entrepreneur and is the proud mother of three children. Her two daughters currently attend Sunfield Elementary, and she loves being involved in both campus and community life. She also works to connect families with local resources, including CommuniCare and co-facilitates a family engagement program called Raising Highly Capable Kids.

Candace is excited to continue her journey at Sunfield and looks forward to another incredible year serving the students, staff, and families of the Stallion community.
