Attendance
Every School Day, Every Class Matters!
Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in Kindergarten and continuing through highschool. Missing 10 percent, or about 18 days, of the school year can drastically affect a student's academic success. Here are someeasy tips you can follow to make sure your children don’t miss out:
Don’t Make Others Sick
Your child should stay home for at least 24 hours if:
Running a fever of 100 degrees or more
Vomiting more than once or has diarrhea
Having flu-like symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, chills, aches and pains.
Appointment Times Matter
Schedule appointments outside of regular school hours.
Listen to the Nurse
Talk to the school nurse FIRST before deciding to take your child home from school.
Make school attendance a priority
Talk about the importance of showing up to school everyday, make that the expectation.
Don’t let your child stay home unless truly sick.
If your child is being bullied, go to the counselor or assistant principal for help IMMEDIATELY.
Schedule trips when school is not in session.
Tips for Parents
Turn in excuse notes within 5 days after the absence.
All excuse notes will be reviewed to see if they meet the state or district guidelines to be excused.
Your excuse notes can be emailed to the school’s attendance office.
Chronic Absence: 18 or more days
Warning Signs: 8 to 17 days
Satisfactory Attendance: 7 or fewer days absent
Absences and being late to school can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
