Welcome to Live Oak Academy!

It is an honor to serve as the principal of Live Oak Academy, Hays CISD’s Alternative School of Choice. Since its founding in 2000, Live Oak has been a beacon of opportunity and success for countless students in our district. As Hays CISD and our surrounding community have grown over the past 25 years, so has our school—evolving in name and in mission to meet the diverse needs of our learners.

Originally opened as The Academy @ Hays, our school was renamed Academy High School in 2008 and rebranded as Live Oak Academy in 2011. I joined Hays CISD in 2004 as the head basketball coach at Hays High School, and in 2008, I found my home at Live Oak. Over the years, I’ve served in a variety of roles here, and in 2017, I was honored to step into the role of principal. I don’t view this position as just a job—it's a calling to help students and staff achieve their greatest potential.

Live Oak is a unique and student-centered environment. Our goal is to provide a personalized educational experience that lays a strong foundation for lifelong learning and individual success. The heart of our school is our dedicated staff—educators who are passionate about building strong relationships and guiding each student toward their goals, both academic and personal.

As principal, my mission is simple: students come first. I believe every student can learn and thrive with the right support. Our teachers work tirelessly to understand how each student learns best, allowing us to tailor instruction and help every learner grow.

Our school motto—Educate, Accelerate, Graduate—guides everything we do. It may be simple, but it reflects a powerful promise to our students and families.
