Nurse

Hello KES Family!

I am Nurse Chelsea, your child’s school nurse. I have 11 years of experience as a registered nurse with this being my 10th year as a School Nurse. I have a passion for public health and collaboration with the community. I look forward to working with you and your students in supporting their health needs.

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago where I went to Aurora University. I received my bachelors in Science in Nursing in 2015. I returned back to school in 2019 to become a certified perinatal and pediatric health coach. My husband and I moved to Texas in 2019, where we have been raising our 4 children.

My role as a school nurse is to support our students' education by promoting and maintaining good health as well as taking care of acute injury and illness.

School nurses perform required health screenings, monitor state-mandated immunizations, and help maintain the school population's health through identification of potentially communicable diseases. You'll find more information on these and other school-health-related topics in the links on the left side of this page. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have regarding school health or your student's individual health needs.

News from the Nurse

Dear KES Parent or Guardian:

Things to know heading into the 2025-2026 school year...

What do I need to do EVERYDAY when sending my student to school?

  • Ensure your child has a CLEAN water bottle every day. We have water bottle filling stations for them to refill the water bottle when needed.

  • Please send a HEALTHY snack (try not to send peanut butter products due to allergies)EVERYDAY!

  • Please make sure that when sending your child to school they are well enough to participate in the school day.

  • Please click on the link for tips on when you should keep your child home. If ever in doubt, please call me and we can discuss if your child is well enough to come to school  that day.

Changes to Screening due to Senate Bill 12:

Texas law requires schools to conduct hearing, vision, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) screenings to help identify potential health concerns early. These screenings are performed on Prek, Kinder, 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th as well as new students to the district. Recent legislation now requires parents/guardians to opt in for these screenings by providing consent.

To complete the consent, click here.

You will be notified of any results that are outside normal limits, and referral information will be provided.

How you can help?

  • Keep your students home if they are sick. Please do not send your student to school after giving students fever-reducing, anti-nausea, or anti-diarrheal medication.

  • Talk to your student about appropriate times to go to the school nurse.

  • Send an extra change of clothing in a Ziploc bag, labelled. This may be kept in the classroom.

  • If your child is seriously ill or injured, we must have a way of contacting you. It is critical that you report changes in phone numbers to the school.

  • Encourage healthy habits to prevent illness:

  • Frequent and correct hand washing, when to wash hands

  • Send a re-fillable water bottle to school and encourage your student to be well hydrated.

  • Make sure your student eats breakfast or that he/she arrives on time to have breakfast in school.

  • Ensure your student gets 8-10 hours of sleep

  • Encourage students to exercise

  • Keep the teacher/nurse informed of any situations that may be going on at home as anxiety is often seen as a stomachache in school-aged children.

Thank you in advance for your help to make your school as healthy as possible.

Medication reminder:

Students at the elementary level must keep medication in the nurses clinic unless otherwise approved by a physician. We must have the appropriate authorizations on file for your student to be able to receive medications while at school. Medication Authorizations and Action Plans can be found here:

If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse.
