Final Exam and Exemption Information

Eligibility Criteria (All course levels)

Freshman may exempt 2

Sophomore may exempt 3

Junior may exempt 4

Senior may exempt 5

  • No outstanding debts/obligations owed to Johnson High School.

  • No more than 4 absences, unexcused, during the semester.

  • No ISS/OSS for current semester.

  • No DAEP for any semester (excluding carryover.)

  • Minimum grade of 85 for semester average.

The purpose of semester exam exemptions is to encourage students to earn higher grades in their classes and demonstrate excellent attendance. Please be sure you read the information below.

Exemption Timeline

Dec. 1-4

Teachers will review the ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA and timeline during Homeroom this document.

Dec. 5-9

Students may request exemption from individual teachers via email. Students will email the teacher(s) of the course they wish to exempt. All emails will be standardized (Example: subject will read "Exemption request") to allow teachers to easily store/sort/respond.
4:30 PM cutoff on December 9th for student requests.

Dec. 5-7

Student can submit an appeal form: JHS Fall 2025 Exemption Appeal Form

Dec. 10-15

  • Teachers communicate with students granting/denying exemption requests in class.

  • Teachers will enter all exemptions into the Exemption spreadsheet by the end of the day Dec. 15th.

NOTE: A teacher can grant/deny before this date or via email.

Exempted Students Plan (Dec. 16-18)

  • Students will first report to their class period (to be counted as “present”).  YOU MUST BRING YOUR CHROMEBOOK!

  • Teachers will provide a link for exempted students to get their Entry Ticket for the cafeteria.  Each period has it’s own ticket!     Use your link to get to your period’s ticket. Keep your specific period's ticket on your device and present it to admin/staff at the entrance of the cafeteria. It's your ticket to get into the cafeteria.

  • Students must report to the cafeteria within 5 minutes of the announcement. Students will not be allowed in the cafeteria after this time.

  • Students will enter the cafe through cafe stairs or downstairs in the main hallway.  Admin will be checking for your specific period’s ticket as students enter both areas.  

  • Jagtime periods, Athletics, Band, EDGE will be a study hall for students, students will stay in the classroom.

Reminders:

  • No early exams. Students that miss with an excused absence/extenuating circumstance may make up a missed exam in the last week of January. Reach out to the AP office.

  • Students that are exempt will still report to your class during test time.

  • You WILL need your CHROMEBOOK during finals.
