Nurse

Traci Ornelas, MSN, RN, NCSN

Welcome Families!

I am Nurse Traci, your child’s school nurse. I have over 30 years of experience as a registered nurse with this being my 6th year as a nurse with Hays CISD. My background is in Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Rheumatology and Allergy/Immunology. I grew up in New York but have made Texas my home for the last 30 years. I live in Martindale with my husband, daughters and several fur babies.

My role as the school nurse is to support our students' education by promoting and maintaining good health, as well as taking care of acute injury and illness when it occurs.

School nurses perform required health screenings, monitor state-mandated immunizations, and help maintain the school population's health through identification of potentially communicable diseases. You'll find more information on these and other school-health-related topics in the links on the left side of this page. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have regarding school health or your student's individual health needs.

News from the Nurse

Hello Hemphill Hawks!  I just wanted to point out a few things to help everyone be a little more healthy and prepare you to be the best learner.

Texas law requires schools to conduct hearing, vision, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) screenings to help identify potential health concerns early. New legislation now requires parent to consent to these screenings. Please complete the consent for health screenings at the link below or scan to the QR code to complete.

If a student requires medication at school, please have a medical authorization completed and signed by parent and physician. Medication Authorizations and Action Plans can be found here:

Recordatorio de medicamentos: si un estudiante requiere medicamentos en la escuela, haga que los padres y el médico completen y firmen una autorización médica. Las autorizaciones de medicamentos y los planes de acción se pueden encontrar aquí:

Affordable health care - if your child doesn't have medical insurance or is about to lose it, I do have resources to help get them care when they need it.
