Hello, Bobcats!  I am excited to begin the 2025-2026 school year at Barton Middle School, where I will embark on my 17th year in education. I am proud to say that, of my 17 years in Education, 16 years have been with Hays CISD in various roles, including teacher, instructional coach, and administrator. It is an honor to serve as an Assistant Principal and be a part of our Bobcat family. I earned a master's degree in Educational Administration from Concordia Lutheran University in Austin, Texas.  I hold a bachelor's degree in science and mathematics education from the University of Central Arkansas. My wife, Alisha, is also a 5th-grade teacher at EGES in Hays CISD.  I have two children who are a part of our Hays CISD schools, Maverick, who is a freshman at Hays High School, and Melina, who is a Barton Bobcat.

During my time with Hays CISD, I have served in various roles, including Department Chair, District Leadership Team member, District Instructional Coach for Strategic Instruction Model Routines, and as an administrator for secondary schools.

My educational background includes teaching Mathematics/Science grades 6-8 at Chapa, Simon, and Dahlstrom Middle School in Hays CISD.  In addition, I served as an Instructional Coach at Dahlstrom Middle School for three years.  Before joining the Bobcat family in 2020, I served three years at Lehman High School as the Freshman Principal for the Freshman Center.

Areas and roles at Barton Middle that I will oversee are the 504 Coordinator, Campus Testing Coordinator, and Behavior Coordinator for our campus. I will oversee the Alpha A-K  for grades 6th-8th.

Last, we will work collaboratively with our community, teachers, and campus principal to ensure our students are trustworthy, respectful, attentive, cooperative, kind, and self-disciplined (our Bobcat pledge). Barton Middle School is more than a middle school for me and my family; it is an extension of OUR FAMILY."  I will be "Living The Dream" every day as we change the world.

I feel very fortunate to be part of the Bobcat family and to continue supporting our students and families for the 2025–2026 school year. This is my 23rd year in education and my 12th year as an Assistant Principal. I’m especially excited to begin my 5th year at Barton.

Although I wasn’t always certain I wanted to be a teacher, I always knew I wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of children. With that goal in mind, I attended Saint Edward’s University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies. I later pursued my teaching certification through the University of Texas and discovered that working with students and teachers was truly my calling. This led me to earn a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on Administrative Leadership from Concordia University.

My teaching background includes Math, Reading, and Language Arts across 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in both rural and urban districts. While with Austin ISD, I served in a variety of leadership roles, including Team Lead Teacher, Curriculum Specialist, Professional Development Committee Chair, and English/Language Arts Department Chair.

As Assistant Principal, I am committed to working alongside our faculty and staff to carry out the vision and mission of Barton Middle School. I will serve as the Title IX Coordinator and oversee students with last names L–Z in grades 6–8.
