Principal's Message

  • It is truly an honor to serve as principal of Live Oak Academy, Hays CISD Alternative School of Choice. I began my career in education in 1993 and was excited to join Hays CISD in 2004 when I became the head basketball coach at Hays High School. After moving to Live Oak Academy in 2008, I served in a variety of roles before becoming the principal this year. I do not view the position of principal as a job, but rather as an opportunity to lead our students and staff to accomplish great things.

I believe that Live Oak is a unique school, and we are in the process of creating ways to celebrate the past and future success of Live Oak.  We may have changed our name over the years, but we have never wavered from our commitment to student success. If you visit our campus, you will notice our new display celebrating the past Principals and Teachers of the Year that have made such a big impact on who we are today. We have assembled a group of educators that is focused on student achievement, and our goal is to provide students with an individual educational experience – one that will continue to build a foundation for future learning.

My mission as principal is to put our students first.  My belief is that all students can learn, and it is our job to support them through this process. At Live Oak, our teachers and staff are committed to discovering how each child learns in order to differentiate our instruction to support diverse learning styles. I very much appreciate our staff’s dedication to working with students. Our school motto is Educate, Accelerate, Graduate.  Although this seems very simple, it is a clear roadmap to student achievement.  Again, I am proud to be the principal of Live Oak Academy, and I am looking forward to this school year.

    Sincerely,

    Doug Agnew
    Principal
