Principal's Message

Elm Grove Families,
Thank you for a great, and somewhat crazy, start to the 2021-22 school year! We appreciate your patience and understanding as we have worked our way through traffic, construction and of course, Covid. Please know that the safety and well-being of our Eagle Leaders always come first! I am fortunate to work with an amazing team of educators who have your children’s best interests at heart! Whatever the challenge, we will figure it out! If you haven’t seen our staff shirts this year, the back reads “Tough Times Don’t Last, Tough Teams Do!”. I think that sums it up pretty well!
This year will be my 17th year at Elm Grove Elementary, and my 13th year as principal! (Fortunately, I was born on a Friday the 13th -- so, the 13 doesn’t scare me at all … although it could explain a lot!) Through the years, I have seen curriculum and “best” teaching practices come and go -- but, I am so glad to say that the one thing that has remained constant is our focus on student empowerment and student leadership. Through our Leader in Me process, we have not only been able to build academic skills, but we are also giving our students tools that will help them to be successful in whatever path they choose to follow. Leader in Me is based on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People brought down to a kid level of understanding. Whether you are new to Elm Grove, or just want a refresher on the 7 habits, please visit leaderinme.org. Additional information on how you can support your leader(s) at home will be coming in the near future!
I am looking forward to a great year! Please know that my door is always open if you have questions or concerns that need to be addressed. It takes us all working together to make sure that our students are getting nothing but the best!Kathy Faulks, Principal
