NEHS Membership FAQ’s
- Selection is made by a faculty council based upon scholarship, character, writing samples, and teacher recommendations. Once selected, it is the member’s responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.
- Members of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes are eligible for selection, once they have completed a year as a Johnson HS student. Candidates must have a minimum cumulative grade point of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in ELA courses in Johnson’s 4.0 point scale. Students who meet the minimum cumulative GPA may apply in the fall semester. Eligibility is then considered on character, writing samples, and teacher recommendations.
- The membership selection process takes place in the first month of the fall semester to be followed by a formal induction ceremony to become an active member.
