4-8 Generalist 8-12 Composite Science
Mr. Mark Silva
I am excited to be a part of the Johnson High School family! My two oldest children attend Johnson and my younger two children attend Dahlstrom Middle School. I look forward to supporting the Jaguars at sporting events, and new experiences in learning.
I have a degree from Texas Christian University in chemistry with a minor in Business Administration. I also played 4 years of TCU Baseball from 1996-99. This 2023-24 is my 4th year here at Johnson High School and I love our school community! I have been teaching for 18 years coming from Laredo, TX. I have taught other grades including 8th grade math for 2 years, AP Chemistry for 7 years and have been teaching high school chemistry for 16 years. I hold a Texas Teacher's certificate in 4-8th Grade Generalist and 8-12th grade composite science.
This past summer I recently attended the AP Chemistry readers convention in Salt Lake City and graded Free Response Questions from all the AP chemistry students that took the Advanced Placement Chemistry exam with a team of 200 teachers and professors.
I began my journey here at Johnson High School as a chemistry teacher in 2020 when the pandemic hit. Prior to teaching, I used my chemistry degree and worked in the pharmaceutical labs as a scientist analyzing the components and structure integrity of cosmetics and drugs in accordance with FDA regulations. I know the real-world applications of the chemistry curriculum and how they are utilized in all careers.
