Welcome Families!
I am Nurse Traci, your child’s school nurse. I have over 30 years of experience as a registered nurse with this being my 4th year as a nurse with Hays CISD. My background is in Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Rheumatology and Allergy/Immunology. I grew up in New York but have made Texas my home for the last 30 years. I live in Martindale with my husband, daughters and several fur babies.
My role as the school nurse is to support our students' education by promoting and maintaining good health, as well as taking care of acute injury and illness when it occurs.
School nurses perform required health screenings, monitor state-mandated immunizations, and help maintain the school population's health through identification of potentially communicable diseases. You'll find more information on these and other school-health-related topics in the links on the left side of this page. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have regarding school health or your student's individual health needs.

Hello Hemphill Hawks! I just wanted to point out a few things to help everyone be a little more healthy and prepare you to be the best learner.
Medication reminder: If a student requires medication at school, please have a medical authorization completed and signed by parent and physician. Medication Authorizations and Action Plans can be found here:
Recordatorio de medicamentos: si un estudiante requiere medicamentos en la escuela, haga que los padres y el médico completen y firmen una autorización médica. Las autorizaciones de medicamentos y los planes de acción se pueden encontrar aquí:

With flu season around the corner, make sure to always wash your hands after sneezing, blowing your nose, using the restroom and before and after eating food. Any fever should be kept away from school until you are fever free for 24 hours without medication. Please stay home if you have thrown up or cannot keep food down. Please stay home from school for at least 24 hours from the last time an episode occurred. Please do not come to school if your child threw up at home in the morning or during the night.
If your child has a fever, cough and/or sore throat, rash, head lice that has been untreated, crusty/goopy eye(s) or has been diagnosed with the Flu or Covid, please keep your child home. It is important to communicate about illnesses that are contagious so we can reduce the number of student exposures. Please email your teacher, the nurse, traci.ornelas@hayscisd.net and our attendance clerk, HES.Attendance@hayscisd.net.
Affordable health care - if your child doesn't have medical insurance or is about to lose it, I do have resources to help get them care when they need it.
Let's have a great healthy start to the school year!
