8th Grade Team Newsletter
8th Grade Math
During the 1st 9 weeks, we will cover 4 units of study. Our focus for Unit 1 will be real numbers and Unit 2 will include one variable equations and inequalities, followed by our CBA for unit 1 and 2 on September 12 . We then will begin Unit 3. Our focus for Unit 3 will be understanding slope and y-intercept and Unit 4 will focus on proportional non-proportional functions. Homework is assigned weekly and due on Friday.
8th Grade Science
During the 1st nine weeks we will be discussing atoms and their structures in unit 1. Chemical Formulas and reactions will be discussed in Unit 2.
Homework will be assigned if students do not complete assignments in class.
8th grade ELA
In the first 9 weeks of 8th grade ELA, we will work through the Gadgets and Glitches unit to answer an essential question. Does technology control or improve our lives? We will read a variety of texts including science fiction, informational, poetry and persuasive in order to develop a written response to the essential question.
During the 1st 9 weeks of school, we will cover 3 units of study. Our focus for Unit 1 will be an Introduction to Functions, Unit 2 will include Linear Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities, followed by our CBA for unit 1 and 2 in the first week of October. We will then begin the first half of Investigating Linear Functions and Inequalities in Unit 3. Homework is assigned weekly and due on Friday.
8th Grade SS
In these first nine weeks 8th grade students will learn how to think like a historian! We will be able to identify reasons for exploring the new world, discuss American independence, and the writing of the constitution! Students will be expected to complete homework weekly and turn it in on Fridays!
