School nursing is a professional registered nursing specialty that involves identification, assessment, prevention, and intervention to remedy or modify students' health needs. The nurses' goal is to promote the optimum health of students and the students' abilities to achieve their individual educational goals by keeping students in school.  

Nurses monitor required immunizations, perform mandated health screenings, track communicable diseases, plan for emergencies and provide direct care to students. Please use the links to the left to learn more about the Hays CISD District Health Services.

We would like to assure you that medical information about your child is treated as confidential by the nurses and all school staff.  We do not share information about your child with outside parties nor can we discuss health concerns of any other student with you.

Hello! I'm Sally Shields, RN, the lead nurse on campus.  Prior to becoming a school nurse, I spent 11 years in Navy medicine as an Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC).  I graduated from Texas State University with my BSN and I have two small children in the Hays CISD school district. I enjoy caring for and seeing the same faces regularly, while concentrating on maintaining good health within our student body.  I'm very excited to be a part of the Hays High School team.

Hi there! I am Jeazel Torres, the Licensed Vocational Nurse on campus. I recently moved to Buda from San Antonio, where I was previously a school nurse for NEISD. I am excited to start a new adventure with my fiancé as we settle into our new home and community. I am looking forward to meeting new people, helping students feel better every day, and making this school year a very healthy and successful one.

Senior Parents!!

Will your student be turning 18 soon?  The Texas Department of Health and Human Services has a state immunization registry known as ImmTrac.  Children under the age of 18 have their immunization automatically added to the system BUT once a child turns 18 their immunization record is removed UNLESS the 18 year old completes the attached form and returns it to their school nurse or the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.  

Students 18 years and older will then be able to access their records for the rest of their adult life.  This is helpful for those going off to college, entering healthcare fields of work, or need to know when their last tetanus shot was.  This registry can be pulled by any healthcare facility in the state of Texas.
