Culinary Arts is a CTE course firmly established to develop Career oriented skills useful to all students, no matter their Culinary skill set. The course works its way through understading the food service industry, finding job opportunities, creating resumes and preparing for job interviews, and developing business plans. Students are required to complete both sanitation training (through ServSafe) and safety training. Before moving into the kitchen, students study and apply basic cooking principles and an understanding of spices and seasoning. Nutrition and dietary lifestyle choices are also investigated, as well as menu planning.
Time spent in the kitchen is focused on building the basic skiills necessary to work in any kitchen. Much of the work is built around many of the catering events we are hired to provide throughout the district and community. This first hand experience is invaluable for building an understanding of the physical work involved when providing quality meals with great customer service.
