David Pierce

  • Mr. Pierce is in his 28th year in the education profession and has served Hays CISD for 15 of those years. Prior to coming to Hays CISD, he was a teacher and Assistant Principal in Austin ISD from 1995-2004 and High School Principal in Mount Vernon ISD from 2004-2009. Mr. Pierce served as Principal of Hays High School from 2009-2022 where he led the campus to multiple academic distinctions, being named Hays CISD Principal of the year in 2019-20 and leading Hays High School to an “A” rated campus in 2022. 

    Mr. Pierce graduated from the University of Texas in 1993 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. From there he earned his Master's Degree from Southwest Texas State University, focusing on Educational Leadership, also earning his Superintendent Certification. He believes in building leadership among his students and staff. Under his leadership, eight former Assistant Principals have been promoted to Principal positions, three teachers to Assistant Principal and many others to leadership roles on campuses around the State of Texas. “I have a passion for pushing others to do great things. I understand the importance of leadership, commitment and systems thinking. I have been very fortunate to have had great mentors who have come along at the right time in my life and in my career. I am a proud product of Texas Public Schools and look forward to serving in my role as Deputy Academic Officer in Hays CISD.”

    Mr. Pierce has been married to his wife Christy for twenty-eight years. They have three children. He is proud that all three of his children attended and graduated from Hays CISD schools.
