Awards Ceremony Photos (5/12/23)
Howdy Bobcats,
I hope that all of our 8th graders had an amazing time at Six Flags today. Shout out to Ms. Townsend and Ms. Lantrip for organizing and all the teachers/coaches (from campuses all across the District) who volunteered to drive busses. Field day on campus was a blast. I am usually with the 8th graders on their trip to Steeplechase park and miss out on 6th/7th grade Field Day. I’d like to thank Daisy Santos for setting everything up and our faculty for being flexible and manning each of the stations. We should be receiving yearbooks early next week and they will be distributed as quickly as possible.
We are officially down to the last 4 days of school. Next week we DO NOT Have school on Friday and will have NO early release days. On Tuesday our 6th grade will have a Fentanyl presentation in the Blue gym at 8:15 and 7th grade at 9:10. This is the same presentation provided to 8th grade earlier in the year. Please see the snippet below referencing information sent to families previously.
“Pre-Summer Reminder Campaign
As we approach the summer, we are stepping up our educational efforts to remind students that the fentanyl danger is still very real in our area. We will be providing assemblies to all of our secondary students featuring one of our parents who lost her child – a Hays CISD student – to fentanyl last August
Here’s the email we sent you earlier about this.”

SMART Tag
Hays CISD uses the Secured Mobility Authorized Ridership Technology (SMART) tag system for all students who ride the bus to and from school. Each of our buses is outfitted with a tablet equipped with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader, mobile connectivity, and GPS. Students place their campus-supplied SMART tag ID badges on the tablet's sensor when loading and unloading their bus. Our bus drivers also benefit through improved safety and automation of tasks, better enabling them to focus on the safe transport of students. Specifically, the SMART tag wireless system transmits information to our transportation staff to include the location of each bus, the names of students on board each bus, notification of an approaching bus, and the ability to view a student’s ridership activity. The SMART tag system also offers parents a bus tracking feature through a secure Parent Portal. Parents can register to receive ‘SMART Alert’ text messages notifying them their child is 10-15 minutes from his/her bus stop. The ‘SMART Alert’ will also notify parents in the event of a bus delay or interruption in service due to a mechanical issue, traffic, inclement weather or crash. The portal may be accessed from any device with a web browser. Click headline above or "Read More" for additional information about the SMART Tag system.
