Counselor's Statement of Confidentiality
As a school counselor, my ultimate goal is to act in the best interest of every student. In doing this, I strive to protect the confidentiality of all students, ensuring they feel safe to work within the counseling relationship. While parents have the right to general progress information regarding their child, we will not share the detailed information that was discussed during a counseling session.
There are, however, exceptions to confidentiality. When a student indicates they may harm themselves or others, or are being harmed by someone else, it is my ethical and legal responsibility to refer to the appropriate source.
