Open Government

  • Hays CISD belongs to you - the taxpayers, parents, students, teachers, staff, and the community. Transparency and accountability are important ingredients in the success of our district. If you need help with information or want to learn more about your school district, we're always glad to help.

The Texas Public Information Act - Open Records

Texas Government Code, Chapter 552, gives you the right to access government records. All government information is presumed to be available to the public. Certain exceptions may apply to the disclosure of the information. Governmental bodies shall promptly release requested information that is not confidential by law, either constitutional, statutory, or by judicial decision, or information for which an exception to disclosure has not been sought.

    Requesting Public Information

Hays CISD accepts requests for public information (open records) in writing if they are received by:

      • Using the public information request form (fill in online) provided by the Texas Office of Attorney General. The Hays CISD fill in online form emails your responses to the district's designated open records email address listed above. If you wish, you may also download and print the public information form from the Office of the Attorney General (download; print; and; mail, email, or hand-deliver) website. This form allows a requestor the option of excluding from a request information that the district determines is confidential or subject to an exception to disclosure.

A request submitted through any of the four means designated on this webpage will trigger application of the Public Information Act; however, the District preference is submission of the template linked above. Like many governmental entities, the District continuously works to streamline its processing of public information requests and use of a centralized form has resulted in improved response time and accuracy. We appreciate your cooperation in implementing a more efficient procedure for processing public information requests by utilizing the District’s request form.

Website Disclaimer re Non-designated Means: Note: Requests not received in writing by one of the above designated means will not be accepted.
