My name is Helen Garcia and I have been in education for over 20 years. I began my career as a 3^rd grade ESL teacher in Austin ISD. I have worked in several capacities and grade levels in my 20+-year career including Instructional Coach and 5^th grade Bilingual Math teacher. I have been fortunate to work in multiple districts and have learned an immense amount from colleagues and leaders in each school and district.  

For the last 4 years I worked as a Principal in Del Valle ISD at a Dual Language Campus where we increased parent involvement, rigor and achievement and created a culture that focused on the student first. I have worked in various districts in many leadership capacities and I am excited to bring my elementary expertise to McCormick Middle School.

My educational credentials include a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Learning Development, with a Minor in Spanish from the University of Texas, a Master’s in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and Educational Leadership from Texas State University.  

I was born and raised in Alice, Texas and married to my childhood friend. I have 3 boys; my 5 year old son Javi, my 3 year old son Miguel, and my stepson Orlando who is 23 years old.  My family enjoys playing soccer, fishing and hunting at the ranch. 

I am honored to have the opportunity to continue my career in Hays CISD where I can use my expertise in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership. I look forward to working with each of you this year. McCormick already feels like home.
