Mr. Tom Green was a local landowner and a long-time agriculture teacher, first at Buda and later at Hays High School.  Mr. Green also ran a cafe with his wife Margaret in downtown Buda and taught veterans classes in an old milk station after World War II.  The Greens, a family of educators, donated the land that had been Tom Green’s boyhood home.  Tom Green Elementary School was built in 1985 and was the first Hays CISD school east of IH35.
