Monica Joy, RN

  • I am your child's school nurse.  Most of the students call me "Nurse Joy".  I have been a school nurse for almost 20 years with specialty training.  My school nurse experience is at 18 years and I absolutely love it.  We love the Texas Hill Country and have lived in many different places.  I have two grown children who kept me very busy with sports through their college years.  I love sports and you may see me at sporting events... just because:-)  Please do not hesitate to contact me. Let's have a great healthy school year!

School nursing is a professional registered nursing specialty that involves identification, assessment, prevention, and intervention to remedy or modify students' health needs. The nurse's goal is to promote the optimum health of students and the students' abilities to achieve their individual educational goals.

Nurses monitor required immunizations, perform mandated health screenings, track communicable diseases, plan for emergencies and provide direct care to students. Please use the links to the left to learn more about the Hays CISD District Health Services.

We would like to assure you that medical information about your child is treated as confidential by the nurses and all school staff.  We do not share information about your child with outside parties nor can we discuss health concerns of any other student with you.

News from the Nurse

  • Hello Elm Grovers!  I just wanted to point out a few things to help everyone be a little more healthy and prepare you to be the best learner.

With flu season around the corner, make sure to always wash your hands after sneezing, blowing your nose, using the restroom and before and after eating food.
Please stay home if you have thrown up or cannot keep food down.  Any fever should be kept away from school until you are fever free for 24 hours without medication.
Stomach viruses seem to always be lurking.  Please stay away from school for at least 24 hours from the last time an episode occurred.  Please do not come to school if you vomited at home in the morning or during the night.  Best to rest at home.

IF you have the flu, please notify your school nurse as well as your teacher.  It is important to communicate about illnesses that are contagious so that we can be vigilant and try to reduce the number of student exposures.

If you have any health concerns, please do not hesitate in contacting your school nurse!

Let's have a great healthy start to the school year!
