Creating the 2019 - 2020 Calendar

  • Hays CISD academic calendars are developed through a process that allows for parent, teacher, student, staff, and community input. The calendar review committee is primarily comprised of District Leadership Team (DLT) members, Board member-appointed parents, and teacher organization representatives. Everyone was invited to participate in the process by taking the calendar survey. The Board of Trustees makes the final decision regarding the academic school calendars for the district.

    Important Considerations:

    • Students must be in attendance for a minimum of 75,600 minutes of instruction per school year.

    • Hays CISD schedules students to attend schools more than the required number of minutes to allow the district flexibility when determining whether to make up instructional time lost because of inclement weather.

    • Teachers work 187 contract days, including days with students and days spent on professional development, classroom preparation, and planning.

Looking Ahead: The 2020 - 2021 Calendar

  • Development of the 2020 - 2021 calendar has been postponed until later in 2019. The original plan was to use the same pattern adopted for the 2019-2020 calendar and roll it forward to the following school year. However, the two school years are different enough to make using the same pattern a bit challenging. The calendar for 2019 - 2020 contains a leap year day and an earlier Memorial Day holiday. Look for a new survey when the district begins to develop the 2020-2021 school calendar.
