What's the Real Story
Behind the Crab That Looks Like a Squid? On
Wednesday, March 9, 2005, Ms. Betty Copeland and the Dahlstrom Middle
School (DMS) library had the honor of hosting Wiley the Crab, the
mascot for Wiley's Way, a book written with the goal of encouraging
children to attend college. Aspiring
journalists: Kaitlyn C, J.R. H., Daryl B., and Ana S. conducted the
exclusive interview below.
How
tall are you? Six
feet, three inches with my shoes that have been specially designed for
crabs, I’m six feet, three inches and three-quarters. What
are your hobbies? Chasing
snails, floating with the current and lying out on the beach at my favorite place, Galveston, Texas. Is going to college like joining a club?
In some ways
yes, it’s like joining a life club; a good club that allows you to stay
in school longer but as an adult. What did you like about college?
The people
because they were so diverse, sharing different languages, nationalities,
and cultures. I hear you have to take something called the SAT to
go to college, what's the SAT? It’s a test
that ranks you and is a requirement for going to college.
It stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. What college do you want to go to?
Why? I
attended Texas State University because my friend Turtle took me there.
I really liked it because there are really good eating places in
San Marcos and really pretty girls. What
advice would you give a student thinking about going to college? Who’s your dream date?
Ideally, it
would be Muffi, the Dahlstrom Middle School Mustang but if she’s not
available, then Halle Berry. Thank you Wiley for making the time to visit with us. We certainly appreciate your efforts and believe in your motto: Learn,
Go to College and Have a Great Life. Learn more about the authors of Wiley's Way at http://www.wileysway.net/authors/authors.cfm Links used with
