ATHLETICS

Requirements for admittance to the athletics class:

All students will be given an opportunity to participate in any sport before or after school regardless of whether they are enrolled in an athletic class provided they follow our policies and guidelines.  A student's past disciplinary record and failing grades may affect admission and participation in the athletic class.

Expectations:

There are higher expectations placed on athletes than on other students. These high expectations are from the coaches, teachers, and the entire community.  Athletes are representing their family, their school, and their community.  Because of these high expectations we require all athletes and their parents to read, complete, and sign some forms.  The forms must be returned to the Dahlstrom Athletic Department at Bales Gym by August 1, before a student can participate before or after school. (The teams are chosen within the first two weeks.) If late with the forms, that athlete will fall behind. These forms are:

HAYS CISD ATHLETIC CODE
UIL ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RULES
PHYSICAL FORM
STUDENT EMERGENCY INFORMATION FORM

The Physical and UIL Ack. of Rules forms will be handed out to all athletes the last week of school or the forms can be picked up at the HHS, BJH, DMS or WMS front office.

Participation:
1. Athletics requires participation in interschool and/or intra-school competition. This includes daily practice and/or competition before and/or after school and on weekends.
2. It is mandatory that athletes dress out for class each day; this enables the athlete to be better able to participate, and make a good grade.
3. If a student fails one class for the six weeks, that student will not be able to participate in games before or after school during the following six weeks but must continue to participate in practice.
4. The athletes must have a ride to or from practices each day.  Transportation is not provided.

In the Dahlstrom Athletic Program, we have unlimited participation.
The school offers a, b, and c teams
and intramurals if necessary..
