Students at Tom Green Elementary School
volunteered their Saturday mornings in February
to attend a writing camp called Time to Write,
Right! sponsored by their teachers. “The
students were motivated and excited to show off
their writing talents and build relationships
with one another outside the classroom daily
routine,” said Cynthia Vasquez, assistant
principal. Volunteering teachers include: Kim
Bishop, Marcela Zavala, Susan Tiffee, Ben
Estrada, Lili Zetuain-Silva, Melanie Vernor,
Cynthia Vasquez and Heather Valdez.
All staff and students of Fuentes Elementary
School will participate in Assets Day on Friday,
March 12. Students will focus on on a handful of
the 40 Developmental Assets with activities that
include: a performance by singer/songwriter Joe
McDermott, "Buddy Reading" among classes and
anti-bullying strategies. Students will select a
project to make the school better and will
conclude with a school wide assembly.
Hays CISD Spring Break will be March 15-19. The
Central Administration Building, as well as all

will resume on Monday, March 22.

Interiors, is offering community fitness classes
just in time for Spring. Adults and teens are

The 40 Developmental
Assets is a framework adopted by Hays CISD based on the theory
that building positive personal assets can help young people
grow up healthy caring and responsible, and can protect them
from high-risk behavior.
