Hays CISD School Nutrition Service operates on a debit meal system. This means that
prepayment of meals can be taken in any increments. The prepayments in turn are applied to
purchases made in that account. Hays CISD promotes the use of the prepayment system to
insulate students from the possibility of forgetting breakfast or lunch money. State and
Federal regulations apply to the purchase of meal tickets or any prepayment so the
following rules apply:
-
Prepayments are accepted every morning in the cafeteria. The cafeteria manager or
a designee will be available in the dining room for any prepayments before and during
breakfast. Regulations disallow us from accepting prepayments on the serving line, so
please do not present the cashier with your prepayments. If paying with a check please
provide student/s full name and ID number on the bottom of the check.
-
Prepayment envelopes are available if parents prefer to send money. When using the
prepayment envelopes, take great care in filling out the students name (first &
last) and the amount of the prepayment and the students ID account number. This aids
in assuring prompt and accurate credit in the students account.
Charges
It is understood that from time to time parents or guardians may forget to send breakfast
or lunch money. After 5 days of charges
for elementary and 3 days of charges for middle and high schools,
the following will occur:
-
Written notification will be sent home with the child. This notification will indicate
the amount owed.
-
Any money received will be applied to outstanding balances first.
-
In the event a child arrives and has a current balances of two prior unpaid charges, a
modified meal will be provided and additional charges will be disallowed until payment is
received.
Additional
Sales
The School Nutrition Service urges students to purchase only nutritionally sound meals
that are provided daily. In some situations we may offer extra items such as an extra
slice of pizza or ice cream on special occasions. Our cash registers are computerized and
have the capability of "locking out" students from such purchases. If you do not
wish your child/children to purchase extras, please contact the cafeteria manager and she
will put a "lock out" on your child's/children's account.
Outside Food
The School Nutrition Service goes to every extent to provide students with a variety of
options every day.
If the hot options are not a desirable option then we have provided a ready made sack
lunch. If your child brings his or her lunch from home, please ensure that it is comprised
of nutritionally sound choices. Because we are committed to providing healthy lunches, we
discourage parents from bringing fast food to school. Not only does fast food not fit into
the healthy food concept, it can also impact the moral of other students.
